David grew up in Wimbledon and has shown great bravery and pioneering spirit to have travelled as far as Battersea to set up his practice.
Training at Kings College in Camberwell he qualified in 1984 and after a year working in the oral surgery unit and restorative departments at Kings went into general practice in Clapham.
In 1999 he set up the 108 Dental Surgery in St Johns Hill with Shirley McBride, his assistant of over 25 years, and has been there ever since.
In 1994 David spent two years attending an advanced dental restorative course run by Mike Wise, and in 2005 completed a years implant course at the world renowned Eastman Dental Institute in Gray’s Inn Road.
“ I really enjoy being part of the local community and knowing my patients well. A large number of my present patients have been coming to see me for over twenty years and to see the children of the children I used to treat is a great experience.
We live in a society of increasing marketing and consumerism and I delight in the fact that we at 108 have created a dental surgery that is a refuge from the pressurised world of selling.
Visiting a dentist, particularly for the first time, can be rather daunting.
I feel that by creating a trusting environment where clinical decisions are discussed and treatment plans created to suit each individual patient’s needs, we can make the whole experience a positive and life enhancing one.
Trust has to be the cornerstone of our practice and I hope that all our patients agree with that.“
David has embraced his mid-life with a fine selection of obsessions. Still learning French at the Institut Francais after 15 years, he is found regularly playing tennis in Battersea Park or trying to emulate Mark Cavendish on his road bike around the South of England or in the Pyrenees. His guitar playing is coming on slowly but is kept behind closed doors. He is often seen around and about Battersea in his 1965 Alfa Romeo. Another on-going project!
James joined the 108 Dental Practice in 2002 and has enjoyed building up a rapport with his patients in the close community atmosphere. He has also appreciated working in an environment where high quality dentistry is both appreciated and encouraged.
James sees continual training is an important part of modern dentistry and has attended several courses at the internationally reknowned Eastman Dental Institute under the tutelage of some of the UK’s leading dental lecturers. He has also completed a 4-year postgraduate degree in restorative dentistry (DRDP) which encompassed root canal therapy, crown and bridge work as well as cosmetic dentistry. Subsequent to this he completed the Certificate in Dental Implants at the Eastman and is very enthusiastic using this skill to replace missing or failing teeth with the least impact on the surrounding teeth, without the need for removeable dentures.
In his spare time James loves to fly-fish and enjoys running and keeping fit. He completed his first half-marathon in September 2011 and is looking forward to repeating the experience. When not at work he and his wife Amanda, an artist some of whose works hang on James’ surgery wall, are kept busy looking after their 5 year-old son and 3 year old daughter.
Steve graduated from the University of Westminster with a BSc 1st class honours degree in Chinese Medicine Acupuncture.
Following graduation Steve visited the China Medical Hospital in Taiwan, on a university exchange program, to observe and learn how acupuncture was used within a hospital environment. He was particularly drawn to its application in musculoskeletal and trauma conditions which triggered his interest in the usage of acupuncture to treat Temporomandibular Joint disorders (TMJ) and other facial pain conditions.
One of Steve’s main aims in life is to remain as stress free as possible and he is passionate about using his skills to also facilitate this state within patients. This includes using acupuncture to reduce stress and anxiety and continual practice (often on himself) to refine the art of painless needling.
Steve is currently embarking on a further 2 year post graduate course in traditional advanced needling skills.
Other passions include cycling, fixing his bikes (any of the 3), surfing, taiqi and travelling with his wife.
